After I had my second child, I began to experience debilitating anxiety. It came like waves I couldn’t control—heart racing, chest tight, mind spinning. There were moments when paramedics had to be rushed to the house, and for a while, I even had to wear a heart monitor.

In those days, my prayers were desperate: “Lord, please calm this storm.”

But the only response I heard was simple and unexpected:

“Worship Me.”

At first, I didn’t understand. Worship felt like the last thing I had energy for. But in obedience, I began to worship the Lord Jesus—even through tears, even when fear tried to choke my voice.

And something began to shift.

The more I worshiped, the more the anxiety began to quiet. Peace started to fill the spaces where panic once lived.

When Worship Invites His Presence

So I asked the Lord, “Why does worship work?”

And He said,

“Ashley, when you worship Me, you invite My tangible presence. And the God who lives in you becomes everything you need.”

That truth changed me.

When I declared the Lord as my peace, as the One who calms the storm, He became the peace I needed. Worship wasn’t about changing my circumstance—it was about changing my focus. It was about making room for His presence to fill what was missing.

What Are You Missing?

So I ask you—what are you missing in your life right now?

Is it peace?

Is it joy?

Stillness?

Shelter or provision?

When Moses asked the Lord, “Who shall I say sent me?” the Lord replied,

“I AM. Tell them I AM sent you.”

For a long time, I read that as almost a flex—like God was saying, “I’m God, that’s why.” But now I see the heart behind those words.

He wasn’t being sarcastic; He was being truthful.

He is the Great I AM. Whatever you need, He is that.

If you need peace—He’s saying, I am Peace

If you need joy—He is joy.

If you need comfort—He is comfort.

He doesn’t just give these things.

He gives Himself.

His name is Peace. His name is Joy. So when you pray, He gives Himself.

And in His presence, everything you need is found.

A Closing Reflection

Worship doesn’t make the storm disappear—it invites the One who commands the storm to be still. It realigns your heart with His truth and reminds you that peace isn’t found in control, but in surrender.

If you’ve been battling anxiety, fear, or restlessness, take a moment today to lift your voice and worship. You don’t need the right words or the right mood. Just a willing heart.

Because when you worship, He shows up—and where He is, peace follows.
